Web consultant and developer. I have been building things for the web since 2010, mostly for businesses who need the site to actually bring in work.
A lot of business websites cost money every month and bring in very little. They load slowly, search engines struggle to make sense of them, and the visitors who do arrive leave without getting in touch. Most of my work is putting that right.
The projects have been deliberately varied. A lending marketplace for small businesses, an affiliate platform handling real payouts, premium office interiors, data centre infrastructure, a travel agency in Surat, a textile industry publisher in the UK, and health coaching. Working across sectors turns out to be useful, because something that solves a problem in fintech will often solve a similar one in travel, and nobody in travel has tried it yet.
Two newer areas take up a good share of my time now. The first is answer engine optimisation, meaning the work of getting a business named when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI a question instead of typing into a search box. The second is AI product media, which is generating catalogue photography and short video for clothing and accessory brands who cannot fund a studio shoot every season.
I work directly with owners and founders. Whoever looks at your site is the same person who builds the fix and picks up the phone afterwards, which is the main advantage of not being an agency.
First client work. jQuery widgets, Google Maps integrations, Joomla and the CMS platforms of the day. Some of those blog posts are still indexed.
Less one-off project work, more long-running relationships with corporate and retail clients.
Bigger builds. Content systems, travel catalogues, membership and subscription products.
Performance became a standing part of every project rather than something bolted on at the end.
Started producing AI product photography and video for clothing and accessory brands.
Answer engine optimisation became a service in its own right as buyers began researching through AI assistants.
